The Sin that Causes Most Abortions

Roe v. Wade was overturned by the SCOTUS in June 1922, a victory of sorts; now, the abortion fight is a state matter, and states are handling it in very different ways. I plan to publish this article on the anniversary of that decision.

Pro-life advocates, of which I am one, have been fighting abortion since Roe v. Wade. They have viewed the SCOTUS decision on Roe v. Wade allowing abortions as the problem, and abortions spiked to 1.6 million a year in 1991. The idea was to change the law and make it a crime, and abortion would go away or significantly decline. However, following the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization (2022) overturning Roe v. Wade, the overall count of abortions actually rose.

In the year since the Dobbs decision, compared to the average monthly number of abortions observed in the pre-Dobbs period of April and May 2022, there were 2,200 cumulative more abortions during the 12 months July 2022 to June 2023  Source

Abortions rose significantly following Roe v. Wade, but it took a few years for them to reach 1.6 million a year. So, it may take a while before the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization has its maximum effect.

The abortion pill is illegal in states that ban abortions; however, this matter is in the courts at the moment. That may be a mute matter since the drug is available through the Internet and shipped through the mail. Source It also makes counting abortions a problem.

In this article, I am suggesting another cure for the abortion problem.

If the nation were to return to the worship of God and follow the Biblical teaching about sexual relations, the abortion problem would mostly go away.

Sexual purity by Biblical standards has never been universally practiced in our country. I get that. But rather than surrender to the base drives of human nature, we need to build an expectation that it is best, better, and, when observed, eliminates a host of problems: abortion, venereal disease, unwanted babies, and many families’ economic collapse.

So, what is the Biblical standard of sexual conduct? Simply stated, it is sexual relations outside of a committed married relationship are a sin against God and His plan for mankind. More simply, abstinence before marriage and total commitment to your spouse in marriage.

When God and his teachings become irrelevant in culture, people ignore any old-fashioned notions about sexual relationships of all kinds. The result is total sexual irresponsibility.

The government supports and encourages promiscuity by providing financial support for mothers without husbands. The breakdown of the American home is aided and abetted by the Federal welfare system. Although being married has many economic and social benefits, some unmarried people stand in line to receive the handout from the government, which requires no work on their part. It institutionalizes poverty to the benefit of the politician and the constituent. However, this is a totally different subject deserving of much policy rethinking.

Here are a few references to Biblical teaching on sexual morality. God’s plan for the home. What is sexual immorality?

For the atheist, the humanist, and all but Christians, this may seem meaningless.

God’s plan has worked every time it has been obeyed. The other choice leads to chaos.

When the culture surrendered to humanist values, when sexual purity as a value was forsaken, the most basic and most profound surrender of all, it produced the most profound and devasting consequences for the nation.

The entire nation will most likely never return; however, any individual person can adopt God’s plan, a family can teach the plan to their children, a church can make it an issue for its members, and a Christian school can teach it to its students. For those who adopt God’s plan for sexuality, abortion will never have to be considered in their lives. A clear conscience before God on this matter is a precious blessing and more and more of an elusive one.

For those to whom this message is too late, please repent and turn to God for forgiveness and direction for the future.
